Cathy DeBuono is a rare actress in Hollywood.

While many actresses remain in the closet, or at least  “guarded” about their personal lives, she is not only out  and proud, but is actively seeking out lesbian roles.

The daughter of a New York cop,  Cathy was a gifted  natural athlete and a heavily recruited volleyball player.  She attended the University of Kentucky on a full athletic  scholarship, and was in training for the US Olympic team  when a knee injury ended her career.

While in college, Cathy met Ashley Judd who cast her in  a school play and encouraged Cathy to pursue acting –  which she did, with gusto. She graduated from the  prestigious American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New  York City in 1994.  Since then, she’s been seen frequently on film, including  this year’s popular lesbian feature And Then Came Lola,  and the recent film Out at the Wedding. She’s also had  recurring roles on television shows like Chicago Hope  and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

Her most recent project, We Have To Stop Now is a  romantic comedy in which Cathy plays a therapist who  is in therapy herself.  After a successful first season,  season two is now in development with a world wide  distribution deal in place with Wolfe Releasing.

A Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Cathy  earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from  Antioch University in 2003.  She’s parlayed her clinical  and professional experience into the video blog What’s  YOUR Problem?, nominated for a LOGO Television NEW  NOW NEXT AWARD in 2007, in which Cathy addresses concerns submitted by her viewers.  She also hosts  SheWired’s The Gloves Are Off with Jill Bennett, her long  time artistic collaborator and partner.

(Suitable for arts & entertainment press, women’s interest, LGBT press)

Cathy DeBuono plays the role of “Danielle” in And Then Came Lola, a sexy, lesbian romp, inspired by the art house classic “Run, Lola, Run” and the subject of controversy when Facebook mysteriously rejected an advertisement for the film that featured photo depicts the three lead actresses in what coproducer Ellen Seidler calls the “sandwich shot,” a sexy but by no means gratuitous shot of three women holding each other.

Cathy is featured as a lead character in the lesbian web series We Have To Stop Now that follows two lesbian therapists lives as they struggle to keep up the pretense of staying together when a documentary film crew invades their home after the success of their book “How To Succeed In Marriage Without Even Trying.”

Cathy does weekly live broadcasts of her weekly advice show What’s Your Problem (every Wednesday evening at 7:30 pm pacific time), and an hour of talk, gossip and provocative debate on The Gloves Are Off (every Thursday evening at 7 pm pacific time) on SheWired.
